Founded in 1924, the Institut Pasteur de Dakar (IPD) is a Senegalese non-profit foundation recognized as a public utility institution. IPD is committed to accelerating equitable, sustainable, and affordable access to healthcare across Africa. The institute delivers healthcare solutions and laboratory services to communities, conducts cutting-edge biomedical research and innovation, manufactures vaccines and diagnostic products that are essential for African populations, develops human capital, and contributes to public health through disease surveillance, epidemic preparedness and response, and public health monitoring.

Over its history, IPD has supported more than 40 African countries in responding to some of the region’s most significant disease outbreaks, including Ebola, Zika, Marburg virus disease, Mpox (formerly known as Monkeypox), and COVID-19. More recently, this support has included strengthening public health laboratories in several African countries and providing epidemiological surveillance support to Equatorial Guinea and Africa CDC.
