About Senegal

Senegal is a West African country bordering the Atlantic Ocean. The land of Teranga abounds in unique and exotic sites.

The currency is the CFA franc, available in bills of 1,000, 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 CFA and coins in other denominations up to 500 CFA.

Prepare Your Trip

Visa

Since May 1, 2015, a visa is no longer required for entry into Senegal (except for nationals of Palestine, Macao, South Sudan and Hong Kong). However, you will need to bring your round-trip plane ticket and confirmation of your accommodation.

What do I need to take with me?

  • Vaccination certificate
  • Insurance – you are responsible for arranging your own travel cover
  • Credit card Visa Mastercard and American Express are accepted in major hotels and some restaurants.
  • Medical kit – with anti-malaria tablets and mosquito spray – you are in a malaria-risk zone
  • Communication – you can buy a local SIM card for around €5 at the airport.
  • Electronics – If you are bringing electronics to Senegal, the voltage requirement is 230 volts.

Health matters

Preventing malaria is an important precaution. Don’t travel without anti-mosquito spray, and don’t hesitate to use it at any time, especially if you plan to be outdoors in the evening.

If malaria is not common in your area, you should also take anti-malarial medication as prescribed by your doctor.

If you develop a fever within two weeks of your return from Senegal, consult your doctor immediately. In Senegal, we strongly recommend that you drink bottled mineral water.

We strongly advise you to book airport transfers directly with the hotel.
