This week, on June 3rd and 4th, 2024, we had the immense pleasure of hosting the Mastercard Foundation team at Institut Pasteur de Dakar. This gathering was a fantastic opportunity to connect with colleagues and review the progress of the MADIBA Workforce Initiative, a program dedicated to establishing a biomanufacturing workforce in Africa.
Their visit also included a tour of our state-of-the-art facilities at MADIBA, the site of Institut Pasteur de Dakarโs Regional Training Hub and the recently launched IPD’s Centre for Africa’s Resilience to Epidemics (CARE), where training is already underway. These facilities are at the forefront of our mission to train young Africans to achieve local and continental ambitions in vaccine production.
Our collaborative efforts with the Mastercard Foundation are focused on providing meaningful jobs and inspiring African youth, especially women, to take on pivotal roles in vaccine production. The Africa CDC estimates that between 9,000 and 14,000 full-time employees (FTE) will be needed to meet the target of producing 60% of Africa’s vaccine needs by 2040.
