On December 19, 2024, Mr. Makhtar Diop, Managing Director of the IFC – International Finance Corporation, visited the vaccine production site of the Institut Pasteur de Dakar (IPD) in Diamniadio. During this visit, he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the IPD in its project for health and vaccine sovereignty, an initiative he considers as a model for building an autonomous healthcare system in Africa.

This visit follows the recent signing of an agreement between the IFC, the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), and VaxSen, securing $45 million in funding for ๐•๐š๐ฑ๐’๐ž๐ง , an entity affiliated with the Institut Pasteur de Dakar.

Mr. Diop toured the ๐Œ๐€๐ƒ๐ˆ๐๐€ and ๐€๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐€๐ฆ๐š๐ซ๐ข๐ฅ plants, which will respectively produce vaccines against emerging epidemic-prone diseases and yellow fever vaccines in larger quantities to meet the needs of the African continent.

During his first visit in March 2022, Mr. Makhtar Diop had already praised the progress made. Two years later, he once again commended the IPD teams for their outstanding work, highlighting the remarkable development of the site. He also renewed his commitment to strengthening the collaboration between the IFC and the IPD to implement swift and effective actions to ensure the success of this innovative initiative.
