From 4 to 8 May 2026, Institut Pasteur de Dakar, in its capacity as Africa CDC Regional Centre of Excellence for Biosafety in West Africa, hosted an intensive Level 1 certification training on biological waste management under the Africa CDC Programme 2025-2030.
Five Days of High-Level Regional Training
27 professionals from 15 countries strengthened their competencies in: classification of hazardous biological waste, best practices for handling and storage, treatment and disposal systems, regulatory frameworks and environmental sustainability, and emergency prevention and response.
15 Countries, One Certified Regional Expert Network
Participants came from Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ghana, Liberia, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and Togo, all sitting the Level 1 certification exam.
Building a Stronger Biosafety Ecosystem in West Africa
This initiative, conducted with ASLM and Africa CDC, builds a regional network of certified experts. IPD congratulates trainers — including certified expert El Hadji Abdourahmane Faye — and all participants.
