Between 1940 and 2020, approximately 340 new infectious diseases emerged globally, with a significant increase in new regions. Over 60% of these diseases are zoonotic, primarily originating from wildlife. Urbanization and population movement exacerbate their spread, with a disproportionate impact on Africa.

To address this challenge, initiatives like the ๐€๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ง ๐๐š๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ ๐ž๐ง ๐†๐ž๐ง๐จ๐ฆ๐ข๐œ๐ฌ ๐ˆ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž (๐€๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐š ๐๐†๐ˆ) have been launched. The ๐ƒ๐„๐“๐„๐‚๐“ project is a key component of this initiative, aimed at integrating genomic surveillance techniques to improve outbreak detection and response.

This intensive training is crucial for enhancing the rapid detection and monitoring of priority pathogens in Africa, contributing to better public health responses and reducing the impact of infectious disease outbreaks worldwide.
