The week began with a remarkable official ceremony, launched by the Ministère de la Santé et de l’Action sociale of Senegal, Dr Ibrahima SY. The Institut Pasteur de Dakar (IPD) is celebrating 100 years of excellence and service to public health, while looking confidently towards the future with ambition and hope for a better tomorrow. In celebrating this centenary, the Senegalese authorities are committed to building an inclusive, resilient, equitable healthcare system that contributes to universal health coverage, stated Minister Dr. Ibrahima Sy.
Among the distinguished personalities present:
- 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐰𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐤, President of the Forum Galien Africa and former Minister of State, Sénégal,
- 𝐃𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐤𝐰𝐞 𝐈𝐡𝐞𝐤𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐳𝐮, Deputy Director-General of World Health Organization for Health Emergency Intelligence and Surveillance Systems,
- 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐢𝐨𝐭, Chairman of the Scientific Council of IPD and the Strategic Council of the Pasteur Network.
In his speech, Dr. Amadou Alpha Sall, General Administrator of IPD, paid tribute to the institution’s achievements, highlighting major successes such as the production of the yellow fever vaccine, research on COVID19 and meningitis, and innovative projects like MADIBA for vaccine self-sufficiency.
The day continued with the first session of the scientific symposium organized by Dr. Xavier BERTHET, Director of Research, Education, and Innovation at IPD, showcasing the experts of the Institut Pasteur de Dakar and our valuable partners in the health and research sectors.
